Robotic surgery represents the greatest surgical innovation of our generation. The fifth-generation platform, DV5, not only refines and expands upon the technical capabilities of its predecessors, but also functions as an advanced computational ecosystem poised to transform surgical training, real-time data acquisition, and global surgeon collaboration. By integrating precision engineering with intelligent data systems, the DV5 is positioned to accelerate surgical process and quality improvement at an unprecedented pace.
Why use the robot?
The robotic platform offers all the same benefits of laparoscopic surgery and more! The robotic instruments actually have articulating wrists, which allows much more precise movements by the surgeon. Want a demonstration? Click the button below to watch my partner peel the skin off a grape!
What surgery can we offer on the robot?
Bariatric Surgery
Vertical sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, SADI, and revisions are all offered robotically. Most require just an overnight stay in the hospital.
Esophagectomy
This is a major operation, historically performed with large incisions through the abdomen, the chest, and sometimes the neck. This can now be performed entirely robotically, making a profound difference in recovery.
Colorectal surgery
Our team includes the only fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon in the region. Whether the surgery is for benign disease or cancer, these are mostly performed robotically. Research shows that the robotic approach not only improves recovery, but can improve the success rate of treating cancer!
Abdominal wall reconstruction
Complex hernia repair sometimes requires a separation of muscular components. This procedure is traditionally done with an open approach, but can now be offered robotically with six small incisions. Drains are rarely necessary and most patients are discharged the day after surgery. Our team routinely cares for patients who were told their hernia cannot be repaired!
Hiatal hernia and reflux surgery
Hiatal hernia repair is most commonly performed along with a reflux operation. This includes fundoplication, LINX, and even gastric bypass. This can be done robotically with four incisions and usually takes about an hour. Patients are discharged same day or day after surgery.
Much more!
While the robot initially had a limited role in general surgery, it is more commonly being utilized for a spectrum of general surgery cases. This includes surgery for the stomach, intestine, spleen, adrenal glands, hernia, gallbladder, and more.
